Begin your day with an extraordinary adventure! Make your way to the Barefoot Shark Encounters booth, conveniently located to the right as you enter the Port Denarau Cruise Terminal. Ensure you check in by 8:15 AM at the latest.

Cruising to Kuata Island
Board a high-speed catamaran operated by Awesome Adventures Fiji and enjoy a scenic cruise through the pristine Mamanuca Islands en route to the stunning Yasawa Islands. Your destination for the day, Kuata Island.

Arrival at Kuata Island
Upon arrival, a warm welcome awaits. You’ll receive a brief orientation about the island’s layout, available facilities, and the day’s schedule, which includes both complimentary and optional activities designed to make your visit truly memorable. Our dive team will introduce themselves ensure appropriate dive documentation is completed then you'll undergo a dive briefing, be kitted out with wetsuits and dive equipment. Next, you'll board our dive vessel bound for Yakawe Reef, a 20-minute boat ride and home to our resident population of sharks. 

Upon entering the water you'll dive 12m guided by our dive team to a specially constructed reef wall for big shark observation. Once you're in position Fiji Shark Dive feeding commences under strict guidelines. Unlike other shark dives, sharks are fed from an elevated pole and conditioned to know there is no food available below this point. The result is spectacular safe shark observation, showcasing these apex predators in their natural habitat, total dive time is approximately 45 minutes.  

The 'Awakening Shark Dive' has been designed by Marine Biologist and Fiji Shark authority Dr Thomas Vignaud. Ecological best practice ensures the dive has no negative impact on the sharks combined with strict OHS best practice to ensure diver safety. 

After the dive you'll return to Barefoot Kuata Island Resort. Lunch is included at the resort and while there you can use resort facilities including use of snorkelling equipment (good snorkelling from the beach), pool, kayaks and standup paddleboards.  

Itinerary* 

8.15am Check-in at the Barefoot Shark Encounters (Barefoot Collection) booth at the Cruise Terminal, Port Denarau. It's the 3rd booth on the right as you enter the Cruise Terminal from the roadside (look for the big Barefoot).  

8.45am Depart Port Denarau, Nadi on ferry.  

10.45am Arrive Barefoot Kuata Island Resort for dive briefing and issue of dive equipment. 

11.30am Depart on the dive boat to Yawake Reef. 

11.50am Arrive Yawake Reef for 'Awakening Shark Dive'. 

12.35pm Return to surface for return dive boat transfer to Barefoot Kuata Island Resort. 

12.55pm Arrive Barefoot Kuata Island Resort for lunch and time at leisure. 

3.45pm Depart Barefoot Kuata Island Resort for Port Denarau. 

5.45-6.00pm Arrive Port Denarau.

Terms & Conditions 

• All guests partaking in any dive must complete a dive medical questionnaire, should a medical condition be identified, it will be assessed by a Dive Instructor. ONLY CERTIFIED DIVERS CAN DO THE AWAKENING SHARK DIVE DAY CRUISE. YOU MUST PRESENT YOUR DIVE CARD AT CHECK IN.

• Should you book knowing you have a medical condition and have not completed an assessment form you may be refused the right to dive and no refunds will be issued.  

• Refunds will not be granted for anyone late to check-in for the vessel departure. We will happily rebook your day trip but if dates don’t allow then full cancellation fees will apply.  

• Return Boat Transfers are operated by Awesome Adventures Fiji. Fiji Shark Encounters is not responsible for any transfer delays, cancellations or amendments to the transfer schedule that may result in missing any forward travel arrangements.  

• All payments with a credit card incur a 3.5% fee. The transaction will be narrated as Crystal Blue Reef Safari.  

In the unlikely event Bull Sharks are unsighted a refund will be issued for 'The Awakening Shark Dive' component

Cancellation Policy  

• No fees applicable should guest have to postpone or amend booking to another travel date up to 1 hour prior to departure.  

• Cancellation 48 – 25 hours prior to travel, cancellation fee 50% of booking value applies. 

• Cancellation 24 hours or less prior to travel or no-show, cancellation fee 100% of booking value applies.
